Launch
of the Terrington CD by the Yorkshire Sounds Project.
Yorkshire
Sounds.
The project aims to capture the heritage of three villages in North
Yorkshire through the recording of speech, music and ambient sounds.
These will be Terrington, Rosedale and the Byland area.
The project will involve members of the community in researching
and recording elements of local history, dialect, story, drama,
music and song to create an audio "snapshot" of each community.
The community will be asked to identify and choose the sounds,
songs, poems etc that are recorded. The group has already
gained the
interest and support in Terrington of the schools, the village
choir and band, and other village groups.
The group has purchased a portable studio to carry out the
group recordings and achieve high quality outputs. A
professional sound
engineer will assist to ensure high quality outputs and group
members will be trained in recording techniques. A digital
hand-held recorder
will be used to capture individual inputs and ambient sounds.
The group plan to expand and develop the project once the HLF
project has been completed and the equipment will therefore
continue to
be available to communities once the HLF project has finished.
CDs will
be produced for each village and made available via a local
archive and through local libraries
Includes
Terrington Choir, Tiefrung Gleemen, Terrington Players, Terrington
CE School and Terrington Hall School.
