Yorkshire Remembered
A selection of film gems presented by the Yorkshire Film Archive, together with recent film by children of Terrington CE School and recent Terrington events.
An exhibition of old photographs of the village and agriculture in the area will be mounted for the evening by Elaine Taylor and Malc Walker.
Extracts from two local films will also be shown:
One is the film Threshing Time, made by the pupils of Terrington CE Primary School in association with Ryedale Folk Museum in 2006 which features the children restoring an old threshing machine, interviews with residents about their memories and acting out a scene from Victorian times when the machines were first introduced.
The second is a film recently made by David Jones from a set of cine films made on Eric Weightman’s farm in Sheriff Hutton in the 1970s. Everyday work on the farm is shown along with red letter days like the delivery of a new tractor, and the film enhanced by Eric’s running commentary about the people and the farm.
The Yorkshire Film Archive finds, preserves and provides access to moving images documenting over one hundred years of life in Yorkshire. Their growing collection ranges from film made by the early pioneering film-makers of the late 19th and early 20th century to recent footage of the changing landscapes and life of our region.
The Archive is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. It is governed by a Board of Trustees from various sectors including media, heritage, commerce, the public sector and higher education.
The Director of the Archive, Sue Howard, leads a team that cares for the collections, offers public access and commercial services, develops educational work and delivers projects across the region.
