Celebrity Wine Tasting
Sarah Kemp
Our village Wine Society celebrates its 10th anniversary later this year. It’s a friendly and very informal group of some 95 members, most of whom are based locally but with some from as far away as Brough!
Sarah Kemp, the Publishing Director of what is considered to be the world’s leading wine magazine, “Decanter”, has kindly agreed to tutor a fun-tasting of wines from both the Old World and the New World, to help celebrate our ‘Anniversary’. The idea is to taste the wines on their own to get some feel for how fruity/acidic/tannic – or whatever – they appear. Then we will repeat the exercise but taste them with some different foods (e.g. different cheeses, patés etc). And to make it more interesting, this time around the wines will be completely covered up – so they will be tasted ‘blind’. Perhaps, since wine is essentially ‘designed’ to be drunk with food it may be that our original preferences may change (but we’ll have to wait and see!).
Whatever our tastes on the night, Sarah’s lively personality will guarantee a fun evening with lots of stimulating discussion about fermented grape juices!
Sarah Kemp is the Publishing Director of Decanter, the internationally acclaimed wine magazine based in London. During her years at Decanter she has travelled the vineyards of the world and been personally responsible for the launch of a series of Decanter guides, Europe’s premier wine tasting events, the Decanter Fine Wine Encounters, the website www.decanter.com and the Decanter World Wine Awards. As well as being responsible for all aspects of the magazine she also writes a bi-monthly column.
She also hosted the American TV series “New American Cuisine” which was shown on Public Broadcast Stations across America. The series included 22 of America’s top chefs including well known names like Charlie Trotter and Michel Richard. For this she was nominated for the 1997 James Beard Best National Television Cooking Show.
As an industry spokesperson she has been a keynote speaker at the World Vinifera Conference in Seattle, co-host of the Raffles International Wine and Food Experience and many more.
